Tourism department plans to promote adventure, winter tourism

To promote Adventure and Winter Tourism in Leh district, Assistant Director Tourism Leh, Jigmet Namgail convened a meeting with the members of the All Ladakh Tour Operator Association (ALTOA), Ladakh Mountain Guides Association (LMG), and India Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) on November 4.

Principal, Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM), Gulmarg, Colonel JS Dhillon was also present.

Discussion on various issues like infrastructure development in sports lines, exploring adventure destinations, establishing snow-ski slopes, organize/ train snow ski camps were carried out.  

AD Tourism spoke about the importance of promoting winter tourism in Ladakh. He informed the efforts of the Tourism Department to explore the un-named tourist destinations of the region, keeping in mind the importance of its fragile ecology, environment, tangible and intangible factors of the region.

Colonel JS Dhillon stressed to develop quality infrastructure and to run professional quality destinations. He also focused on developing skating rinks in every village with the proper equipment and opined for the engagement of youth for the purpose.

He further added that the role of the Administration will be highly instrumental in developing high quality and international standard infrastructure in the region.

This will help to explore more hidden tourist attractive potentials of the region, which ultimately affect the overall development of the region and economy as well.

He assured that all the issues raised by the stakeholder will be taken up with higher authorities.
