CEC Kargil inaugurates Barburchey view point at Sankoo, emphasises tourism-led development

Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon inaugurated the newly developed Barburchey View Point at Sankoo on July 1 in the presence of Councillor Sankoo Syed Ahmad Razvi, former MLA Syed Baqir, officials from the Tourism Department and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate's Office, religious leaders and a large gathering of local residents.

The inauguration marked a significant step towards promoting Sankoo as a major tourist destination in Kargil district. Participants appreciated the initiative of local youth Zakir Parwana, whose vision and sustained efforts led to the development of the scenic viewpoint.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Akhoon congratulated Zakir Parwana for his initiative and said the Tourism Department is working to increase the average stay of tourists in Kargil from three to six days, thereby generating greater livelihood opportunities for local youth.

He emphasised the need to promote pilgrimage tourism, cultural tourism and Sankoo's rich heritage, describing the Barburchey View Point as the beginning of a broader effort to showcase the region's immense tourism potential.

The CEC also highlighted the importance of quality education, urging parents to prioritise their children's education as the foundation for the district's long-term development. He said the administration is actively promoting Kargil's unique culture and traditions as an integral part of tourism development.

Highlighting various government initiatives, Dr. Akhoon spoke about upcoming subsidy schemes and the new industrial policy, encouraging entrepreneurs and aspiring youth to take full advantage of these opportunities. He assured full support from LAHDC Kargil for initiatives promoting tourism, entrepreneurship and local employment.

Referring to ongoing developmental projects, he highlighted efforts to strengthen both winter and summer sports infrastructure, including the development of an AstroTurf ground, public parks near Astana, walking tracks and playgrounds. He also proposed organising events under the Suru Festival at the Barburchey View Point to attract more visitors and further enhance the area's tourism appeal.

Speaking on the occasion, Councillor Syed Ahmad Razvi congratulated Zakir Parwana for his dedication and vision. He urged young people not to depend solely on government jobs but to explore opportunities in tourism, entrepreneurship and self-employment. He also appealed to the concerned departments to promote Sankoo's historical, cultural and natural attractions and improve road connectivity to tourist destinations.

Representatives of various departments, religious leaders and members of the public also addressed the gathering. They appreciated the establishment of the Barburchey View Point and lauded Zakir Parwana's initiative, expressing confidence that such efforts would inspire more youth to contribute towards the region's development.

Expressing gratitude, Zakir Parwana thanked the CEC, public representatives, government officials, religious leaders and the people of Sankoo for their support. He said the Barburchey View Point marks the beginning of a larger vision to develop more tourism attractions in the region and invited tourists from across the country to visit Sankoo and experience its natural beauty, cultural heritage and hospitality.
