2nd edition of Ladakh Winter Conclave commences

LEH: The 2nd edition of Ladakh Winter Conclave themed, “Adventure, Heritage and Culture: Post Covid-19 revival of the industry” began on January 20.

Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, was the chief guest for the event organised by the Department of Tourism, UT Ladakh. 

Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson, executive councillors from LAHDC Leh, King Jigmet Namgyal, Commissioner Secretary, Tourism, Rigzin Sampheal; Director, Tourism, Kunzes Angmo; head of different religious organisations and guests, including renowned filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra was present during the opening ceremony of the Ladakh Winter Conclave.

Speaking on the occasion, MP Ladakh expressed hope to see the Ladakh tourism industry focusing on sustainable practices and striving for the revival of the sector post-Covid-19 pandemic. He shared that events such as Ladakh Literature Festival, Zanskar Winter Youth and Sports Festival, and Ladakh Winter Conclave has given a facelift and also helped in realising the potential of winter-related activities in Ladakh.

Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson, shared that Ladakh has a huge potential as a tourist destination. He stated that the potential must be explored to the fullest since tourism is the biggest contributor to people’s income. He added that such platforms would encourage stakeholders to come forward and discuss ideas to explore the potential of year-round tourism activities in Ladakh. Chairman, LAHDC Leh also emphasised the need to focus on responsible tourism.

Earlier, Commissioner Secretary, Tourism, Rigzin Samphel welcomed all the dignitaries and guests to the three-day event. He shared that the objective of the event is to expand tourism beyond the peak tourist months starting from April till September.

Several short films shot by filmmakers from Ladakh were screened to the audience. There were also dance performances during the opening ceremony.
