Tip Top yellow beats Ldumra United in 19th NDS Memorial Cricket Tournament

Tip Top Yellow won 19th Nawang Dorjay Stobdan Memorial Cricket Tournament from Ldumra United on May 22 at NDS Ground opposite Council secretariat, Leh.  A total of 24 teams participated in the month-long tournament organised by Tip Top Sports & Culture Welfare Society.

The Chief Guest of the occasion was CEC Dr Sonam Dawa and President, LBA, Tsewang Thinles was the guest of honour.

Talking about the youth interest in sports and to encourage and motivate them for the excellence, Sonam Jorgais , President , Tip Top Sports  and Culture welfare society, submitted a memorandum to the CEC, Dr Dawa for making the ground well structured with better facilities. He demanded  a separate budget for sports in the plan  in order to promote sports in Ladakh.  

Dr Sonam Dawa expressed the contribution and sacrifice of Nawang, Dorjey and Stobdan for Ladakh during agitation fighting for UT in 1989.  Understanding the difficulties and problem faced by the enthusiastic players during the games because of poor facilities he assured to consider the matter and will put every effort to make a well-established stadium in next 2 years.  He congratulated all the 24 teams for the participation in the tournament.

He further added that the 5th LAHDC will strive to establish a coaching and training centre for sports at block level with an aim to make our youth well trained before entering into any competitions. 

A cash prize of ₹  35,000 was awarded to the winner while the runner-up team was awarded  ₹ 25,000.

Tip Top Yellow won the toss and opted to field first. Ldumra United scored 122 runs in allotted 20 over.  The incredible partnership between Kaliyan and Tundup made the game in Tip Top’s favour. 

Man of the match was given to Tundup of Tip Top, Rinchen of Chuchot Sporting Club took 15 wickets from 6 matches and won Purple Cap for highest wicket taker and Aziz as Highest Scorer. 
Captain of the Tip Top team said that they are planning to spend their prize money on some welfare works or to donate on some emergencies issues. 

The event was lighted up and entertained more by a colourful cultural performance Ladakh Students ECO Culture Saver.
