Police organizes Late Tashi Rigzin Memorial Archery Tournament

Two days Late Tashi Rigzin (Director Prosecution) Memorial Archery Tournament was organized by District Police Leh in collaboration with Ladakh Winter Sports Club and Traditional Archery Society of Ladakh on 6 and 7 March at District Police Line, Choglamsar.

Anil Kumar Gautam, DIG ITBP Ladakh was the Chief Guest of the occasion and other prominent guests included Army Officers and Air Force Officers.

48 Archery teams from different villages including girls team and differently able participated in the event. In the beginning, all the players pledged to play the game with full honesty.

SSP Leh Dr. Sunil Gupta said that the district police has organized this tournament for the first time. He praised the dedication and honesty of Late Tashi Rigzin and said that he has set an example for the entire police department.
DIG ITBP, A.K Gautam expressed happiness and congratulated the people of Ladakh on keeping alive and continuing with the age old tradition of playing Archery.

In the end, Tashi Dorje Basgo won the Best Archer of the tournament. Winner by Zambala-A team, 1st Runner up was won by Darsal Tsogspa Sakti and 2nd Runner up by Sunrise team Thiksey.

This tournament was organized in memory of Late Tashi Rigzin who was born in Shachukul village in 1959. After completing LLB from Jammu University, he was appointed as Prosecuting Officer in Jammu and Kashmir police in 1988. Later he was promoted as Senior Prosecuting officer and Chief Prosecuting Officer while posted in Leh.  He hailed the distinction of being the youngest CPO in the state. After being promoted to Deputy Director, he served in Sher-e -Kashmir Police Academy where he was further promoted to Joint Director. Thereafter he was transferred from Police headquarter and was officiating as Director Headquarter. His sudden demise on 20 June ,2014 in Srinagar shocked the entire police department.

During his tenure, he has not only handled different nature of criminal cases but also many anti-national elements cases especially collecting the data and material about several wanted militants. His honesty and dedication were an example for others.
