The second edition of Nurboo Wangdus Memorial Ice Wall Climbing Competition concluded at Gangles village on March 1.

ADG, ITBP, Western Command, Manoj Singh Rawat graced the occasion as the chief guest and wife of Late Nurbu Wangdus, Tsering Chorol was the guest of honour.

Winners have been awarded with a cash prize ₹25,000 for first position, ₹ 10,000 for second position and ₹5,000 for third position along with medals.

The competition has been conducted under the aegis of ITBP in association with LMGA from February 27 to March 1. An artificial lce wall was created for this competition at an altitude of 13,500 feet. Speed climbing and Lead climbing have been conducted for men and women participants divided across three age categories.

The events have been judged by an expert panel of experienced mountaineers from ITBP, LMGA and IMA. A total of 108 participants including 77 from ITBP, 05 from Nubra village, 10 from LMGA and 16 students from local schools participated in the competition.

In male speed climbing (18-35 years), Dorje Tundup , LMGA secured the first position, Rigzin Namgyal, NWFTR ITBP secured the second position and Padma Tundup, NWFTR ITBP secured the third position.

Similarly, in male speed climbing (35-50), Jigmet Nalzor, NWFTR ITBP secured the first position, Skalzang Rigzin, LMGA secured the second position, and Vellayat Ali NWFTR ITBP secured the third position.

In female speed climbing (18-35 years) Kunzang Lamo, NWFTR ITBP secured the first position, Dechen Spalzes, NWFTR ITBP secured the second position, Tsering Yangzom, NWFTR ITBP secured the third position.

In male lead climbing (18-50 years), Padma Tundup, NWFTR ITBP secured the first position, Tsewang Gailtson, LMGA secured the second position, and Rigzin Namgyal, NWFTR ITBP secured the third position.

In children speed climbing (18-35 years), Rinchen Dadul, Govt. High School , Housing Colony secured the first position, Sonam Chospel,Druk Padma Karpo School Shey, secured the second position and Jigmet Rinchen,Druk Padma Karpo School, Shey secured the third position.

Also, a variety of cultural programs were organised during the closing ceremony.
