Girls of Ladakh retain titles in New Delhi marathon

Four girls representing UT Ladakh retained their titles in the fifth edition of the IDBI Federal Life Insurance, New Delhi marathon on February 23.

The marathon was flagged off by Indian cricket star Sachin Tendulkar from Jawaharlal Nehru stadium. Over 22,000 runners participated in four different categories -the Full Marathon (42.2 km), Half Marathon (21.1 km), 10 km Timed Run and 5 km  Swacch Bharat Run.

In full marathon, Jigmet Dolma won bronze medal with a timing of 03:03:10s. In the half marathon, Tashi Ladol clinched gold with a timing of 1:28:28 followed by Stanzin Chondol 01:31:13 and Stanzin Dolkar 01:31:43.

Ladakh Marathon founder Chewang Motup said that the Ladakhi runners had natural advantage of physical endurance and little support and guidance is all needed.

Ladakh Marathon was started in 2012 giving ample of opportunities and scopes to young athletes of Ladakh to participate in number of marathon taking place around the country.
