To develop the modern archery collectively with the traditional archery, 2nd CEC archery championship 2016 was organized by District Youth Services and Sports Leh in collaboration with District Archery Association, Leh on September 25 and concluded on September 26 at NDS Sports complex, Leh.
CEC LAHDC Leh, Dr. Sonam Dawa was the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the competition. To develop archery further, he said the youths of Ladakh needs to be trained more to represent in national level.
He directed the Department of youth services and sports and Nehru Yuva Kendra to hold a talent hunt for the students at the block level. Selected youth will be further trained in Leh to make them excel in the national and international level competition.
Executive councilor, Agriculture, Tsering Angdus, chief guest on an inaugural day, said that Archery is the age old tradition of Ladakh which the Ladakhi people believe to bring peace, luck and prosperity in the community and society as a whole.
Talking about the archery tournament sent to Jamshedpur, he said that two out of six participants have got selected for national level, hope they will do great at the national level by representing archery.
Rinchen Saabi, President, District Archery Association Leh said, “In the past years we have developed the traditional archery in a very good manner, the time is to develop the modern archery to represent our youth at the national level. We should focus on delivering this tradition to the younger generation so that archery can be developed both at national and international level.”
Twenty teams from different villages of Leh district participated in the competition.
In the individual round, Rigzin Tonyot scored 90 points and bags the first position, Stanzin Chonjor with 84 points stood second and Namgyal Dorjay stood third with 71 points.
In the end, certificates and trophies were distributed to the participant.
