ASMITA League promotes women’s winter sports in Ladakh

The ASMITA League 2026 was inaugurated at the NDS Ice Hockey Stadium, Leh on March 24. The opening ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Moses Kunzang, Administrative Secretary, Youth Services & Sports.

The tournament has brought together several competitive teams, including four from Leh district and two from Kargil district. In addition to ice hockey matches, the league also features figure skating and speed skating categories, adding diversity and excitement to the event.

Among other dignitaries present were Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, JKAS, CCF, and Tsering Tashi, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Leh, along with representatives and members of the Ice Hockey Association of Ladakh (IHAL).

In the inaugural match, Kharu Falcons secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Sham Eagles. In another match, Lalok delivered a dominant performance against SECMOL, winning convincingly with a score of 6–1.

Further matches scheduled for the day include Kharu Falcons vs Lalok at 3:00 PM and SECMOL vs Shakar Chiktan Queens at 5:00 PM.

The ASMITA League is a sports initiative aimed at promoting women’s participation in winter sports, fostering talent, and encouraging greater involvement in ice-based sporting disciplines across the region.
