Zonal-level inter-middle school sports tournament begins in Khaltse

The zonal-level inter-school tournament for middle schools in the Khaltse zone began on June 2 at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Khaltse. The event is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Leh.
The opening ceremony was graced by the Principal of GHSS Khaltse, Tsewang Paljor, who served as the chief guest.
In his address, Tsewang Paljor emphasized the integral role of sports in education and personal development. He encouraged students to participate actively in such events, noting that they offer valuable experience and prepare youth for higher-level competitions. He further highlighted that sports foster discipline, teamwork, character development, and physical well-being.
Stanzin Phelgais, Incharge from DYSS Leh, briefed the participants on the various games scheduled during the tournament.
A total of 22 schools, including both government and private institutions from the Khaltse zone, are participating, with over 250 students competing in different sports.
As part of the opening day events, a handball match was held between Government Middle School Khaltse and Lotsawa Lamdon School Temisgam. The match ended with Lotsawa Lamdon School Temisgam securing a victory with a score of 10–05.
The event was attended by DYSS officials, teaching faculty of GHSS Khaltse, and Physical Education Teachers from across the Khaltse zone.
