World Environment Day: YDA to provide garbage bins in all commercial vehicles in Leh Hill Council will plan proper waste management system in Nubra, Changthang and Leh: CEC

 On World’s Environment day under the theme, ‘Connecting with Nature’ a cleanliness drive and was carried out by members of Young Drukpa Association of Leh and Nubra on June 5 at Khardong la. 

The day also marked tribute to His Eminence Gyalsras Bakula Rinpoche on his birth centenary celebration all over the Ladakh.

Talking about His Eminence Gyalsras Bakula Rinpoche birth centenary celebration, His Eminence Thuksras Rinpoche said, “It is an important year for each and every one of us to remember the works of Gyalsras Bakula Rinpoche for the upliftment and welfare of our society. Also, it is important to walk on the path and contribute to the welfare of Ladakh”

“There are many known and unknown people in our society who are working for Ladakh dedicatedly, but very few encourage and motivate such people,”said Thuksras Rinpoche.

 His Eminence appealed people to encourage a person for his work, no matter how big small it is and to live unitedly without selfish reason for a better society.”

As a contribution on World Environment Day, His Eminence informed that under the sponsorship of YDA, a garbage bag will be provided to every commercial driver of Ladakh and appealed Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC to make the need and use of garbage bin compulsory or as a rule in all the commercial vehicles.  Thus, the tourist will throw the waste in the bin without throwing in the way around.

Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC said, “We are living in a very fragile ecosystem and it becomes important to preserve and save it from any kind of harmful activities”. 

Talking about the importance of keeping the passes clean, he said, “People of Ladakh has religious sentiment attached with all the passes and believes in keeping it clean. With a change in time and influx of tourism, the passes of Ladakh have been deteriorated massively”. 

CEC said that the council has a plan to provide toilet facilities with few meters away from the top points of the passes. “We are putting every effort to keep such important places clean”, he said.

Dr. Sonam Dawa expressed gratitude for the provision of garbage bin in all the commercial vehicle. 

He informed that for the disposal of all the waste, the council has already planned to manage the waste scientifically in Nubra, Changthang and Leh region.   For the project, we have approached specialised engineers from Bangalore one of which is a boy from Nubra Valley who will execute the work in the coming days.

He assured for a proper waste management system in Leh district by 2018.

On the occasion, Ven. Tsetan, YDA Vice-President and Dr Sonam Wangchuk also spoke on the occasion.
