Workshop on ‘Agriculture in Ladakh - Present Status, Challenges, and Future Prospects’  held

One-day workshop titled ‘Agriculture in Ladakh - Present Status, Challenges, and Future Prospects’ was organised at the Regional Research Station of the ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI) in Stakna, Leh on November 3.

Tsering Angchok, Deputy CEC was also present. The workshop aimed to provide a collaborative platform for stakeholders to discuss the current agricultural landscape in Ladakh and explore potential solutions to the unique challenges faced by the region.

Dr. OP Yadav, Director of CAZRI, Jodhpur highlighted the institute's dedication to advancing agricultural research and development in Ladakh. Dr. MS Kanwar, Head of the Regional Research Station at CAZRI, Leh, and Dr. RK Goyal, Principal Scientist at the same station, assumed the roles of Organizing Secretary and Co-organizing Secretary, respectively. 

Participants representing the Department of Horticulture, Department of Agriculture, Department of Animal/Sheep Husbandry, and experts from organizations like Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Leh, Nyoma and Kargil, the Defence Institute of High-Altitude Research (DIHAR), National Institute of Sowa Rigpa (NISR) and SKUAST- HMAARI Leh and NGO’s were present.

During the workshop, several esteemed participants from various sectors actively engaged in discussions and knowledge-sharing. 

The workshop emphasized the significance of research and development in shaping the region's agriculture, with a focus on ensuring food security and sustainability in the challenging high-altitude environment.
