Women entrepreneurs inaugurate agro processing cluster in Sakti

Women artisans in Sakti village inaugurated an agro-processing cluster with a bakery and potato chips unit on March 6. The initiative, supported by HDFC Parivartan implemented by Bindi International NGO, was a significant step towards empowering women in entrepreneurship.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Rigzin Tsering, councillor of Sakti, who praised the initiative and extended his support.

The agro-processing cluster project is not just a business endeavour; it symbolizes the resilience and ingenuity of women artisans who have overcome numerous challenges
to realize their dreams. Through this initiative, they aim to not only create economic opportunities for themselves but also to contribute to the local community by offering
quality products.

HDFC Parivartan, known for its commitment to social development, has played a pivotal role in supporting this project, providing the necessary resources and expertise
to ensure its success.

Bindi International NGO has diligently implemented the project, facilitating training, mentorship, and access to market linkages for the women artisans.

The event served as a platform to celebrate the accomplishments of these women and to inspire others to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations. It emphasized the importance of creating an enabling environment where women can thrive and make meaningful contributions to society.

“Ladakh has traditionally practiced sustenance agriculture for decades and women have always played an active role in agriculture.With the introduction of cash crops and value added products over the last few years to Ladakhi agro economy a lot has changed in the last few decades. These agro processing units will boost the local economy and the women will be future changemakers in creating value added products from local produce,”said Sushant Guleria, Project Lead Ladakh - Sustainable Livelihoods and Climate Action.

On this occasion, guests included Tsewang Norboo, social worker, Sonam Stobdan, ex-sarpanch of Taknak, Tsewang Lobzang,lambardar, and Tundup Dorjey, ex Sarpach
of Tagar.
