Wipro Earthian regional award ceremony held in Kargil

The Wipro Earthian Regional Award Ceremony was held at the Auditorium Hall, Kargil on June 17, graced by Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz, along with representatives from Wipro—Avinash from the Education Wing and Ashish, a key member of Wipro’s management team.
Addressing the gathering, EC Kacho Feroz, on behalf of the Education Department, lauded the visionary contributions of leaders like Azim Premji and Ratan Tata, whose philanthropic and developmental work aims to uplift not only Ladakh but the nation as a whole. He emphasized the need for hard work, revenue generation, and a firm focus on social welfare, especially in the areas of women’s empowerment, education, healthcare, and environmental conservation.
Highlighting the serious impacts of climate change in Ladakh—such as rapid glacial melt, erratic weather, and declining snowfall—he called for urgent and collective action. He expressed gratitude to Wipro for organizing the event and assured full support for future initiatives aimed at youth development and environmental awareness in the region.
The programme began with a welcome address by Preeti, who introduced the Wipro Foundation and Azim Premji University, emphasizing their commitment to social transformation through financial and educational initiatives that reach the grassroots.
Ashish, while congratulating participants, explained the meaning of "Earthian"—a term derived from “Earth,” representing sustainability and environmental consciousness. He stressed the importance of nurturing young minds to become active contributors in tackling global environmental issues and promoting pollution-free ecosystems. The Earthian platform, he noted, brings together students from across India to share and learn through collaboration.
Avinash, speaking next, shared that the Wipro Earthian programme has been operational since 2010 and was initiated by Azim Premji to foster sustainability through education.
He elaborated on Wipro’s global presence in over 65 countries and its vision to empower people through equal access to rights, responsibilities, and opportunities in industrial, educational, and social sectors.
He also emphasized that Azim Premji has pledged a significant portion of his wealth towards causes in healthcare, education, and the environment. “Earth is our only home,” Avinash reminded the audience, urging collective responsibility for its protection.
A special presentation on Azim Premji University followed, highlighting its eco-conscious infrastructure. The university promotes a “Go Green” ethos, with no air-conditioners in classrooms, relying instead on bioclimatic architectural design to ensure comfort and productivity. The university provides vast opportunities for students committed to building sustainable careers.
The event left a lasting impression on the attendees, echoing the powerful words of poet Tishani Doshi: “Take care of small things and big things will fall into place.”
