Week-long cultural workshop for councillors of LAHDC, Leh concludes

LAHDC, Leh in association with the Ladakh Academy of Art and Culture, Leh organised a week-long cultural workshop for the Councillors of LAHDC Leh from March 17 to 23 at Zen hotel.

Experts from various traditional backgrounds led by legendary folk singer of Ladakh, Padma Shri awardee Morup Namgyal presented classes every evening on folk songs, folk dance and traditional instruments. Expert talks were also conducted for all the Councillors during the workshop.  

Addressing the closing function, Dy Chairman Tsering Angchuk stated that Councillors as the prominent public representatives of the district must become role models in promoting Ladakhi culture and tradition to the masses. Highlighting the importance of the workshop, he mentioned that all the Councillors have a lot of learning to take away from the workshop. He further expressed his gratitude to the Chairman, LAHDC Leh and the Executive Councillor for Art and Culture, LAHDC Leh for the initiative and the experts for sharing their experiences and pieces of knowledge with them.

Executive Councillor for Art and Culture, Stanzin Chosphel expressed his gratitude to the team of experts for spending their valuable time and teaching traditional songs and dances to the Councillors. He also extended his gratitude to the Cultural Academy Leh led by Dy Secretary, Tsewang Paljor for successfully conducting the workshop. He added that Hill Council Leh is working efficiently in promoting and preserving the enriching Ladakhi culture and tradition. He also mentioned several initiatives from the Council in all the regions of the district and sought assistance from the Councillors in efficiently implementing the programmes.     

All the Executive Councillors and Councillors shared their experiences and valuable feedback from the workshop and expressed gratitude to the experts and organisers for the wonderful week-long workshop. The programme concluded with Traditional dance, song and instrumental presentation by all the Councillors of LAHDC Leh.  

The experts for the workshop were Padma Shri awardee Morup Namgyal, Mipham Otsal, Tsering Nurboo Digar, Dorjey Stakmo, Tsering Angdu Khegu, Tsewang and musicians led by Tsewang Phunchok.
