NEW DELHI :
A nun from Ladakh, Venerable Dr. Tsering Palmo was honored with FACE International Women Leadership Award 2017 on December 8 at ICCR, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi.

The function was organized by FACE India International foundation for art, culture, and education to protect women’s strength, stories, and struggle. Women achievers, leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals and students from around the world were invited and a total of 17 women were felicitated.

Expressing gratitude and happiness to receive the award, Venerable Dr. Tsering Palmo said, “Being a nun I never expected to win an award but yes this is indeed an honor and encouragement to the women of Ladakh. In our society, we do have a fine line drawn between the leadership and women.  Many feel that women can’t lead and not strong enough to bring a change but with this award, I proudly stand and say that time has changed and women too can lead and take responsibility in a better way to bring social changes".

She further encouraged the young generation to realize and understand the ability and strength of oneself and work with true intention to bring positive changes.

Venerable Dr. Tsering Palmo, nun and a traditional medical practitioner (Amchi) stood forward to uplift the nun’s situation and eliminate social problems faced by the nuns of Ladakh. In 1996, she established Ladakh Nun’s Association realizing the hardship and declining situation of Buddhist Nun in Ladakh. The initiative was taken with an aim to revive the tradition and to educate and empower Nuns providing a scope to study and practice the Buddha Dharma.
