Deputy Commissioner, Drass, Imteeaz Kacho, on July 14 visited the Khaiber locality of Shimsha Revenue village to assess the condition of the dilapidated Government Middle School building. He was accompanied by Zonal Education Officer Mohammad Ibrahim.

During the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner examined every classroom and observed that several rooms were unsafe for academic activities. He also noted the need for constructing a boundary wall to ensure the safety of students.

Suggesting a long-term solution, DC Kacho advised that the school should ideally be relocated to a more central location within the locality, as the existing site is situated on elevated terrain, making it difficult and unsafe for children to access.

The Headmaster briefed the Deputy Commissioner on the school's condition and highlighted its future infrastructure requirements. The Zonal Education Officer informed him about the measures taken to keep the school operational despite the shortage of adequate classrooms.

The Deputy Commissioner also interacted with members of the Village Education Committee, the Lambardar, and local residents to discuss other pressing issues, including poor mobile connectivity, the need for an Anganwadi Centre, a ration store, a health centre, and improved road connectivity. He assured the residents of all possible support from the District Administration.

Women from the locality raised concerns over their inability to mark MGNREGA attendance online due to poor internet connectivity. Responding to the issue, the Deputy Commissioner assured them that he would take up the matter with the Block Development Officer to find a suitable solution.
