University of Ladakh organizss one-day workshop for farmers in Kargil

Kargil :

One-day workshop for farmers themed, ‘Safe and Judicious Use of Pesticides and Application of New Generation Formulations for Crop Protection in Vegetable Crops’ was held on 14 February at Auditorium Hall, Kargil. The workshop was organised by the University of Ladakh in association with the Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology Department of Chemical and Petrochemicals, GoI.

Kacho Mohammad Ali Khan, Chief Agriculture Officer, Kargil highlighted the increasing demand for sustainable agriculture practices among the farmers. Dr. Sudeep Mishra (IPFT, scientist) gave a detailed presentation on “Analysis and Quality of Organic Pesticide formulation and Residues”.

Executive Councillor, Tourism and Revenue, LAHDC, Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz applauded the organisers for conducting the workshop and suggested the Agriculture Department Kargil, University of Ladakh and IPFT for designing a policy on agriculture so that the sector can bloom significantly. He asserted that LAHDC, Kargil is committed to work for the welfare of farmers, adding that the efforts of farmers should be recognised and honored formally.

Rector, Kargil Campus, UoL, Kaneez Fatima stated that the workshop is organised to engage progressive farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices and foster a culture of responsible pesticide usage. She highlighted the importance of agricultural literacy and its socio-economic impact. Adding to it she said that women in society have a huge role to contribute to agriculture sector.

The workshop featured expert led sessions on the latest advancements in pesticide formulations tailored for vegetable crops.  
Giriraj Char (IPFT, Scientist) as resource person also spoke on “Organic and Sustainable Agriculture”.

The workshop concluded with a call to action for participants to implement the knowledge gained, contributing to safer and more sustainable agricultural practices in their communities.

Nawang Tundup, Registrar, UoL; Sonam Wangchuk, Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor, UoL, Tashi Tundup, Consultant, UoL, Resource persons from IPFT, faculty members of UoL and farmers across Kargil were present during the workshop.
