Trash to reduce, reuse and recycle; Khimsa awareness organises in Leh

With an aim to reduce and recycle the trash, focusing on growing crisis of pollution in Ladakh, a trash art event was organised by a group of NGOs on World Environment day on June 5 at main market, Leh.

The trash art festival will continue till June 30 in Leh by organising different talks, cleanliness campaign and debate on sustainable solution to waste management in Leh. Theatre artists are visiting the different areas of Leh town performing street play to sensitize the people to minimize and recycle the waste management in our daily life.

Tashi Morup, Coordinator LAMO said, “With the help of many NGOs and MC, Leh we could come up with such initiative to spread awareness about the ill effects of garbage in Leh. The trash art event will be continuing till June 30 with various programmes in different venues, we will have conference, cleanliness programme, exhibition, talks etc.”

Thinless Dolkar student said, “On this environment day we try to recycle the trash by forming a trash musical band in which the whole instrument is made up with trash. It is our need of hour to reduce and reuse the waste in order to have a clean environment”

The exhibition of reused trash in and local cuisine were also present in the main market. 

The two days cleanliness drive covering the stream, irrigation canals of Leh town was also organised.

However, J&K police band present a musical concert and student present theatrical performance on trash on the occasion.
