Training under Skill Development Programme held in Changthang

A fortnight-long vocational training programme on spinning for the women of Tibetan Refugees Camp, Sumdo of Changthang region, organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nyoma, SKUAST-K concluded on February 23.

Fifteen women participated in the programme under Tribal Sub Plan. 

Spinning machines were later distributed among the participants. Another 15 days Skill Development Programme on machine knitting being organised by the same centre concluded at Nyoma village on March 12, in which 15 women participated. 

Scientists of KVK, Nyoma, Dr. Kunzes Angmo, Dr. Sonam Spaldon and Dr. Anwar Hussain and Phunstog Dorjay, Nambardar Nyoma was present at the valedictory event. The aim of these programmes was to ease the laborious and time consuming traditional methods of spinning and knitting with the intervention of machines. 
 
Spinning and knitting are the main sources of income generation in Changthang region during the winter season in which most women are involved.
