Three arrested for extorting money in Leh

Three accused namely  Rigzen Dorjay R/o Lingshed ; Manish KC  R/o Nepal and Jatin Sharma R/o Jammu arrested in charge of money extortion from a local youth in Leh. A case FIR No 03/2022 U/S 364A, 392,394, 506/IPC was registered.

On  January 16, Police post-Housing Colony Leh received a complaint from a person namely Padma Angchuk R/o Heniskot labour by a profession that on 14 January, three unknown persons abducted him and his friend from New Bus Stand Leh in a Santro car and took them to Skampari area and extorted an amount of Rs 16000 from him.

The victim came to Leh for purchasing some household items and on reaching Leh he met his friend namely Lobzang Takpa of Zanskar at Skalzangling, who is also a labour by profession. They both went  to New Bus Stand Leh  to have some food in a restaurant and after having food, the duo were searching for a hotel room near bus stand for night stay as the complainant as well as his friend  didn't have any accommodation here in Leh.  As they were searching for a room, the duo encountered the accused namely  Rigzen Dorjay and his accomplice Manish KC who told them that they will arrange a better room for night stay and then forcefully took them in their santo car driven by Manish KC. They took them to Skampari area where they were joined by the their third accomplice namely Jatin Sharma. The trio threatened them and extorted Rs 16000/- cash from complainant Padma Angchuk. They beat the victims with fists and blows and threatened them with dire consequences if they inform police or anybody else.

Based on the complaint, District Police, Leh investigated and based on body description and the their attire provided by the victims, different police search parties were sent and succeeded in  arresting all the three accused who committed this heinous crime.

The trio confessed their involvement in committing the crime and on their confessions and disclosure Rs, 9600 (nine thousand six hundred) has been recovered by police along with the white colour Santro car bearing registration No DL 2CAD.8190. Further investigation is going on for involvement of these accused persons  in any other criminal activities.

District Police appeals public to inform police or Dial 112 without any hesitation if such incidents happen with them.
