Ten days trekking guide training course begins in Kargil

The first batch of the ten days Trekking Guide Training Course was flagged off by Assistant Director Tourism, Kargil, Aga Syed Toha Mosvi from TRC, Kargil on August 22.

The training course was organised by the Tourism Department, LAHDC, Kargil UT Ladakh in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM). The training will be held at Tangole (3700 Mt), the base camp of Mount Nun (4600 Mt), and at the advance base camp (5000 Mt) of Mount Nun in Suru Valley.

The first batch comprised 20 trainees from different parts of the country including female trainees and 50 percent of the seats is reserved for local youths.

Advisor to Ministry of Tourism and Patron IISM J. S Dhillon, Special Officer Tourism Department Kargil Ghulam Rasool Lal, President Ladakh Mountain Guide Association Skalzang Rigzin, Instructor IISM Sadiq Ali, instructors and officers of concerned department were present.

AD Tourism said that the training program should be effective and inclusive as UT Administration and LAHDC Kargil are keen to promote and explore Kargil as a hub of adventure tourism.

He informed that the Kargil branch of IISM is going to be established this year and thanked UT Administration, LAHDC Kargil and District Administration, and IISM for promoting adventure sports-related activities in the district.

Colonel J. S Dhillon said that the promotion of adventure tourism-related activities in Kargil has always remained the mandate of the Ministry of Tourism considering the immense potential in Kargil.
