Swachhta hi Seva 2019: DC, Leh, discourages single-use plastic

A meeting on Swachhta hi Seva 2019 themed ‘Plastic waste awareness and management was convened by Sachin Kumar Vaishya, DC Leh with the Sarpanches of Leh district on September 17.

Swachhta hi Seva 2019 is being organised from September 11 till October 2. Mass awareness about plastic waste management will be carried out in this campaign.
 
Sachin Kumar urged all Sarpanches to free their villages, offices, and workplaces from single-use plastic. He talked about the hazardous effects of single-use plastic on the environment and the health of animals and aquatic life. 

He appealed people to use eco-friendly bags while shopping and other purposes.
 
DC also asked the Sarpanches of different areas to collect all plastic wastes from their surroundings at an identified place and ensures its proper disposal with the support of the local administration. He further added that the collected plastic wastes will then be recycled and effectively disposed of.
 
Discussion on various issues including funding problems to Panchayats, authorization of revenue collection, strengthening of 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendment Act 1992 was also held.
 
Sarpanch of Saboo raised a serious issue regarding the present disposal system of wastes at bomb guard causing air and land pollution.
 
Sachin Kumar assured that a mechanised plant for disposal of wastes will be set up shortly to resolve this long pending issue. 
 
He further added that people will witness huge development in every sphere of life at grass root level in the coming days.
