LEH :
The State Government under the Tribal Affair Department sanctioned ₹ 200 lac for the construction of a hostel for the nomadic border children of Changthang, Lalok on March 22 in Jammu.

Celebrating the achievement, the founding member of Education and Cultural Society of Lalok (ECSOL) hold a meeting to discuss the future plans on March 27 in Leh.

The members reiterate the motive and objective of this hostel and expressed their gratitude to all the stakeholders who extended their support for it. The meeting also focuses on the early conduct of E-tender and construction, lying down of foundation stone and much more.

Venerable Stanzin Norboo kopay, Founder ECSOL said, “From the last seven years we strongly felt the need to have hostel facilities for the students of Lalok region studying in Leh. The students after completing their high schools go to urban areas for further studies and stay in rented rooms. It is very challenging and also the student’s faces many hardships. Parents look out for a hostel facility for their children but unfortunately, there is none in Leh. Many families send their children to live with the family residing in urban areas where they help in household chores along with pursuing the education. All this made us think about constructing a hostel to facilitate the students in pursuing the education hurdle free and for the future of Lalok.”

He further said, “We are very happy that the long-pending demand has been achieved. It would not be possible without the help of JP Yadav, DIG, ITBP, Leh.  Because of his guidance and support we accomplished our dream project.”

The members informed that the hostel will be constructed in Choglamsar covering 10 kanal area. With every needed facility the hostel will be free of cost for the students of Lalok area.

Education and Cultural Society of Lalok were founded by seven youths from Lalok headed by Venerable Stanzin Norboo. The society was formed with an aim to improve the education system in border villages and aware people about the importance of education in the region.
