Street play raises awareness on drug abuse at Leh main market

The Health Department, Leh, in collaboration with Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh, organised a nukkad natak at Leh Main Market on August 19 to raise awareness among the public, particularly youth, about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

Through an engaging street play, students highlighted the physical, mental and social consequences of substance abuse and sensitised the public about the Needle Exchange Programme and Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) as important harm-reduction interventions.

The performance was well received by the public and effectively conveyed the message of promoting a drug-free and healthy society. Chief Medical Officer Dr Rinchen Chosdol and District Immunization Officer Dr Farhana Iqbal were present to encourage and support the participating students.

The Health Department expressed gratitude to Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh, and the Information Department for their valuable support in making the awareness activity a success.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community-based awareness initiatives aimed at preventing drug abuse and promoting a healthier society in Ladakh.
