Sod turning ceremony of Hanuthang – Handanbroke – Zingpal – Turtuk road held

Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur graced the sod turning ceremony for the construction of Hanuthang – Handanbroke – Zingpal – Turtuk (61 kms) road and up-gradation of Khaltse – Batalik (56 kms), Kargil – Dumgil (78 kms), Khalsar – Agaham – Shayok (70.15 kms) and Tangtse – Lukung (31 kms) roads by Border Roads Organisation.

RK Mathur stated that the construction of the Hanuthang – Handanbroke – Zingpal – Turtuk road had been a priority ever since demanded by the people of Turtuk.

“I am glad that with everyone’s collective efforts, we have made the dream of the elders of the region come true,” stated LG Mathur.

He also spoke of the PM’s love for Ladakh and stated that it is evident by the enhanced budget for UT administration and LAHDC and various sanctions for the education, health and infrastructural sectors. 

He also appreciated BRO for their contribution in the development of Ladakh and spoke of their dedication and hard work in these challenging terrains. LG Mathur also welcomed BRO’s new initiatives in Road safety and Labour Welfare and stated that all possible measures will be ensured for the safety and security of the people who work in these difficult conditions.

Dr Ajay Kumar, Defence Secretary applauded the visionary plans of the UT Administration for the infrastructural development of the region and assured all possible help in future endeavours.

Ghulam Mehdi, Executive Councillor Turtuk expressed his gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor and stated that the construction of the much required road will help the people avail better health facilities without the need of travelling hundreds of miles and crossing the Khardong la pass to reach Leh.

CEC, Hill Council, Leh, Tashi Gyalson; Member Parliament, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal; Lt. General Rajeev Chaudhary, DG BRO; Chief Engineers Vijayak and Himank Brigadier Ashish Gambhir and Brigadier Arvinder Singh were present on the occasion.
