Social welfare department distributes assistive devices to specially-abled people

A total number of 13 motorized scooters, 160 hearing machines and walking sticks were distributed among the specially-abled persons belonging to various part of the Kargil district on January 4.

The programme was organised by District Social Welfare Department, Kargil.

EC Aga Syed Hassan Arman appreciated the efforts of the Social Welfare Department Kargil for taking the initiative for reaching out to the specially-abled persons in providing them with motorized scooters, hearing machines and walking sticks. 

He said that this initiative will prove revolutionary in the life of the specially-abled persons and will support them in empowering themselves and live a respectable life. He said that this initiative will uplift and transform the socio-economic profile of the specially-abled people to provide them equal opportunities to progress in society. 

He further stressed on beneficiaries to take the best possible benefits of these helping aids and asked them to keep close coordination with the Department of Social Welfare to avail the benefits of assistance being provided through various Government schemes. 

District Social Welfare Officer, Kargil, Aga Syed Jamal said that the department has launched many welfare schemes especially for the specially-abled persons and other weaker sections of the society. 

He said that the department is committed to providing every possible help to the needy and physically disabled persons and in this regard a new proposal has been submitted to UT Administration for approval.

It was informed that a team led by Dr Oliyat Ali, ENT Specialist has conducted a special drive to identify persons with hearing problems throughout the district. 

The beneficiaries who availed of the benefits hailed the initiatives of the department for their welfare.
