Sheep Husbandry Dept. Kargil organises seminar/sheep show at Apati village

Sheep Husbandry Department Kargil under National Livestock Mission (NLM) 2022-23 organized a daylong seminar/sheep show at Apati village in Sodh Block on February 7.

The sheep show was aimed to aware and appreciate progressive breeders of the Sodh Block associated with sheep farming.

District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr. Niyaz-ul-Hassanian briefed participants about the achievements and schemes of the department and advised people to take benefit from the schemes to increase livestock population. He said the livestock sector has the potential to push the economy of rural areas.

While talking about the NLM, District Sheep Husbandry Officer said the department has planned to organize such programs under NLM at every Block in the future.

He also advised the breeders, having Karakul breed, to look after the breed in the best possible way so that the breed population can be increased in the district. He said the department is committed to increasing the livestock in the district and is providing the best quality feed and fodder to the beneficiaries.

BDC Chairperson, Sodh Zakir Hussain thanked the Sheep Husbandry Department for organizing such programs and hoped the department will continue such programs in the future. He suggested the public take benefits from such programs.

Principal Scientist, KVK Kargil detailed the fodders and crops suitable for cultivation in water scarcity areas. He talked about different scientific methods used in drought-prone areas to improve the quantity and quality of crops in such areas. He recommended organic fertilizers for growing crops to protect the environment.

The doctors and experts from other departments also delivered lectures as resource persons on different topics to the participants.

Sheep Show was organized in which livestock were presented by breeders for selection of awards by the judges.

The department awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes in different categories of livestock. In addition to this, 36 consolation prizes were also awarded.
