School reopens after 10 years in Nurla

Blame it on the new trend of sending their children to private Schools or lack of facilities, the government schools of the region witnessed thin enrol today. But in Nurla a govt. School which was closed for almost 10 years was reopened with the efforts of villagers of Nurla. 

“Government Middle School, Nurla was closed since last ten years as parents prefer to educate their children in the private School these days”, said Tsewang Rigzin, Sarpanch Nurla. 

At present, only six students are studying there in nursery classes of LKG & UKG and they have three teachers to teach the students. He said, “The attendance will hopefully get better with time.  The importance of the school is more as compared to others as it is on the National Highway NH1.” 

Rinchen Tundup (Thang pa), Sarpanch, Nambardar motivated the parents to enrol their children in this school and assured that best teachers will be arranged by requesting the Chief Education Officer Leh and Zonal Education Officer Khaltsi. 

“The School was there before Independence and it produced many good officers in Ladakh. At one time, there was a wave of enrolling their children in public Schools and most of the govt. Schools were closed. The main objective is to give education at a nominal charge and provide the best of education to the student”, said the Sarpanch Nurla.  

He said that they request the higher officials in the Education Department to provide good teachers at least for the primary classes,” said Tsewang Rigzin, Sarpanch Nurla. 

Meanwhile, the villagers of the Nurla demanded that the school should be reopened, as it is difficult for the students of the village to attend the school in the main city, Leh.
