Project Tsangda: DC, Leh reviews garbage management system

Review meeting of Project Tsangda was convened by Sachin Kumar, DC, Leh on December 21 at DC office conference hall.

Assistant Commissioner Development, Leh, Sonam Norboo; Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), Rigzin Spalgon; Block Development Officer Leh/Chuchot, Padma Angmo; BDO Khaltse, Virendra Kumar; Director EcoSage Rohit, supervisors, and concerned officials attended the meeting. 

BDOs of Panamik, Diskit, Kharu, and Nyoma attended the meeting through video conference.

Sachin Kumar stressed the basic need for mass awareness about generating less garbage at our homes to reduce its after-effects. 

At the departmental level, the focus should be given on a full-proof mechanism to regulate and take steps towards finding ways to solve the garbage issue, he said.

Sachin Kumar directed all the concerned officers and departments to resolve the issues pertaining to lands of Project Tsangda in Spituk, Nimoo, and Choglamsar villages. The direction was also given for an intensive mass awareness drive to educate and motivate the general public about the importance of the segregation of garbage at their homes. 

Topics concerning electrification of centers, procurement of machines, installation of incinerators, creation of storage cell at Leh Project, creation of ‘Waste to art parks’, modules for running centers, among others, were also discussed in detail.

ACD Norboo pointed on the need to motivate the residents and encourage them to become part of the segregation process at the primary level. 

Training given by the department would yield better results in the long run thus making villages in particular and Ladakh in general a clean place with a proper garbage management system, he added. 

Supervisors, Project-Tsangda, Yangchan, and Rohit gave a detailed overview of achievements, works accomplished, challenges, and road map of Project Tsangda during the past three years.
