Philatelic exhibition held in Leh

The 4th District level LEHPEX, Leh philatelic exhibition was organised for two days by Superintendent Post Offices, Ladakh Division, Leh on June 28 and 29 at Auditorium Hall, Ladakh Public School, Leh.

Gyal P Wangyal, EC Health representing CEC, LAHDC Dorjey Mutup, inaugurated the 4th district level LEHPEX-2018, Leh Philatelic Exhibition. A special cover on Druk Padma Karpo School, Shey by Department of Postal, Government of India was released.

Gyal P Wangyal said that the stamp collection teaches three important things that include increasing one’s general knowledge, works as a high-value investment and take it as a hobby. He stressed on motivating children to take philately as a hobby and appreciated Postal Department for first of its kind exhibition. And urged the department to continue such events in coming years and ensure participation of students from different suba-divisions of Leh district. 

He asked Chief Post Master General, J&K, P D. Tsering to strengthen the post office branch opened in different villages in the district. 

Pointing out the non-serious, careless attitude of postmen in Leh Gyal P Wangyal stressed on the need to make them more responsible inefficient postal services in the district. He said that compared to other places Leh is a huge area with sparsely scattered population and postal services have great importance here despite its decline in popularity due to internet facility. He urged P D. Tsering to highlight Ladakhi culture and tradition through their stamps. 

On the concluding day of the function the chief guest, Avny Lavasa DC Leh said that studying about stamps give insights into history, geography, art, culture, religion, inventions, flora and fauna and so many information in one’s life. Such exhibition in Leh gives a great platform for students to experience many innovative and new things about stamps.

Expressing happiness on releasing stamps depicting the picture of Seabuckthorn (the wonder plant of Ladakh), Lavasa said that such efforts will make Ladakh famous worldwide. 

Tsering, Chief Post Master General, J&K, P.D. gave brief information about the purpose of organizing this exhibition in Leh and highlighted various services of Post India including e-governance. 

He talked about the thematic collection of stamps and urged students and others to start with philately as their hobby which is called the king of hobbies and hobbies of kings. 

He further said that postal department is working hard to upgrade the postal service system in Ladakh which he assured will improve transaction and speedy postal delivery in the region. 

Superintendent Post Offices, Ladakh Division,Chandra Mohan Bhat and Assistant Superintendent Post, Leh also spoke on the occasion.
 
Various competitions on stamp design, letter writing, quiz, philately workshop were held. And on the second day, the prizes were distributed among the winners.
