KARGIL :
To electrify remote villages of Kargil & Zanskar region, Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency (KREDA) partnered with Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE) on April 3 in Kargil.

The collaboration has electrified places like Phugtal Gompa and villages of Itchu, Lankerchey Brok, Bodkharbhu Phu and Stakchey Brok for the first time.

More than 20 villages of Zanskar region are living without electricity.

Kacho Ahmed Khan, Project Director of KREDA said “We have made every possible effort to help these communities but there was no good technical solution available. Global Himalayan Expedition has come up with an innovative Solar Micro Grid solution using energy efficient LED lights. This will change the electrification scenario of our region, and we hope to have 100% Electrification by 2018”.

Global Himalayan Expedition has been developing its own energy efficient devices such as LED Lights, DC LED TV’s, DC computing devices and USB charging hubs.

Jaideep Bansal, Energy Access Leader of GHE said, “Energy efficiency is the key to providing energy access to the remote communities of India. Our innovation lays in using DC-based Micro Grids and using energy efficient devices which allow for maximum impact with minimum investment”

KREDA has been working on providing clean energy through Hydro Power and Solar to the villages of Kargil region. This partnership will prove to be a good step for the local communities who have been living without electricity in today’s world till now.
