One-day training programme for Fish Feed Business held

An awareness-cum-training programme on Fish Feed Business by Fish Farmer Producer Organisation (FFPO) was organised by National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) Regional Office, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Cooperative and Fisheries Department, Leh along with Krishi Vikas Kendra (KVK), Leh at Sheynam Community Hall on September 14.

Executive Councillor, Agriculture, Stanzin Chosphel was the chief guest and Executive Councillor, Fisheries, Ghulam Mehdi was the guest of honour for the event. Regional Director, NCDC, Ashish Grover; Deputy Director, NCDC, Vivek Tripathi; Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies, (DRCS), Leh, Dr. Mohd Abbas; Assistant Director, Fisheries, Mohd Ammen; Inspector Fisheries, Tsewang Dolma; Senior Scientist, KVK Leh, SKUAST, Dr. Sabia were also present.

Executive Councillor, Stanzin Chosphel briefed about the various activities of the Fisheries Department in Leh and the Fish Farmer Producer Organization (FFPO). He also thanked the officers from NCDC for organizing such an awareness programme.

Executive Councillor, Ghulam Mehdi said that such capacity-building training for fish farmers would develop their skills for making FFPOs economically viable.
Deputy Director, Vivek Kumar Tripathi gave a power-point presentation on the operational guidelines for the formation of FFPO.

DRCS Leh, Dr. Mohd Abbas in his power-point presentation highlighted the Legal and Statutory Requirements for a Farming Cooperative Society in Leh. Similarly, AD Fisheries, Mohd Ameen threw light on Fish Feed Business as a viable business proposition for Cooperatives and also briefed about the demand and supply gap of fish feed market players and recent trends.
Inspector Fisheries, Leh, Tsewang Dolma gave a power-point presentation on the use of technology for the economic production of fish feed. She also spoke about pricing, branding, and marketing of fish feed.

Around 100 fish farmers and youth from different villages in the Leh district participated in the programme.
