A one-day training camp titled Kisan Gosthi focusing on various aspects of agriculture and the use of modern farming technologies for the welfare of farmers was held on March 9 at Domkhar village in Sub-Division Khaltse. The programme was organised by the Agriculture Department under the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) and witnessed the participation of around 102 farmers from the village.

The training was led by Deputy Director Agriculture, UT Ladakh, Tashi Dolma; Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Leh, Mohd Ramzan; and Junior Agriculture Extension Officer, Stanzin Idong.

During the programme, REWA Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) President Tashi Thokmed and his team highlighted the importance of the newly formed REWA FPO in Domkhar village, which currently comprises 107 members. They explained how the FPO could help improve farmers’ income and strengthen the overall welfare of the community in the future.

The sessions covered topics such as the importance of natural and organic farming, preparation of vermicompost, mushroom cultivation, and the benefits of mustard cultivation.

A practical demonstration on the preparation of Beejamrit, Jeevamrit, and Agniastra was conducted by Mohd Ramzan. Farmers were also informed about various departmental schemes available to support their agricultural activities.

The Agriculture Department assured farmers that seeds of mustard and rajma would be provided under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) as part of demonstration activities.

A highlight of the programme was the distribution of organic certificates to farmers, enabling them to market their produce as certified organic in the future.

The training programme concluded successfully with active participation and a positive response from farmers, creating much-needed awareness ahead of the upcoming agricultural season.
