NYK, Kargil organises webinar on water conservation

Kargil :

A webinar on water conservation and management in cold arid Ladakh under the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign (Jal Shakti Abhiyaan-2) was organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kargil on December 2.

Abdul Hakim Aziz, Deputy Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra Srinagar briefed the participants about Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, its vision, and objectives.

The keynote speaker during the webinar was Sonam Wangchuk, an engineer, innovator, and education reformist.

Wangchuk stressed sustainable and judicious use of water resources.
During the presentation, his major focus was on the use of eco-friendly and sustainable ways for water lifting like the use of solar pumps. He further stressed the importance of using compost toilets with the dual benefit of manure for crops and minimizing the wastage of water.

He also briefed the participants about the techniques of an artificial glacier to conserve the glacier water in winter for its use in summer for irrigation purposes.
