New roads in Martselang, Shang villages to be completed in two years

A foundation stone of an internal road and bridge stretching 4.70 kilometers long in the name of Late PT Chow was laid for construction and up-gradation by Chering Dorje, Minister for Cooperative and Ladakh Affairs on November 2 in Martselang.

The road with a cost of ₹6 crore and 87 under Central Road Fund scheme will be completed in the next two years.

Late PT Chow has struggled a lot in achieving the scheme for Martselang village.

Congratulating the people of Martselang in fulfilling their long-standing demand, Minister strongly urged upon the implementing agency to complete road within the targeted time so that the people of Martselang, Shang, and Chokdo besides the trekkers could take benefit from this road.

Minister further informed about the coming up of hydel power project between Shara and Igoo on Indus with its power station near Martselang and a 2-lane motorable bridge at the existing Choglamsar Bridge with a road towards Hemis Monastery via Chushot.

Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Councillor Martselang said that the road has been a long-standing demand and it is the responsibility of the implementing agency to complete it within a time frame. He assured cooperation from the people of Martselang in the road construction.

On the occasion, he also mentioned of few important demands of the people that included opening and up-gradation of the road from powerhouse to Jabak, delimitation of Panchayat Halqa and early completion of land allotment cases of the villagers under Igoo-Phey Command Area.

Tashi Chombel, District Superintending Engineer highlighted the salient features of the road and assured to complete it within next 2 years.
