National Voters Day celebrated to create electoral awareness

The 14th National Voters Day themed, ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure’ was celebrated with great enthusiasm at EJM College, Leh on January 25.

Chief Electoral Officer, UT Ladakh, Yatindra Maralkar was the chief guest on the occasion. Besides, District Election Officer, Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, State Icon, Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), Phonsok Ladakhi, Deputy Secretary (Election), Swarn Singh were present on the occasion.

Deputy District Election Officer, Leh, Sonam Chosjor briefly outlined the purpose of the gathering and spoke about the importance of community involvement in the electoral process.

Assistant Chief Electoral Officer, Leh, Delex Namgyal administered the Voters Day Pledge to the participants on the occasion.

Chief Electoral Officer, UT Ladakh, Yatindra Maralkar urged future voters to actively engage in the forthcoming elections and play a pivotal role in raising awareness within the community. Highlighting the power of an informed electorate, he urged the audience to exercise their right to vote. He reiterated the essence of democracy as a collective endeavor and encouraged the audience to be proactive in building a stronger and more engaged society through their involvement in the electoral process.

District Election Officer, Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve motivated the young voters to actively engage in the democratic process.

Providing valuable insights, he emphasised the importance of making informed choices and selecting representatives wisely. In a call for maximum participation, he stressed that the strength of a democracy lies in the collective voice of its people.

Assistant Professor, Political Science, University of Ladakh briefed about the significance of National Voters Day. Further, State Icon SVEEP, Phonsok Ladakhi also shared his views on the occasion.
EVM/ VVPAT demonstration was also conducted.

To encourage the young voters, a quiz competition was organised between the students of different Higher Secondary Schools of the Leh Block. Higher Secondary School Nyoma bagged the first position, Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh bagged the second position, and Girls Higher Secondary School, Leh bagged the third position. In the painting competition, Govt High School Largyab Pachathang secured the first position, Govt. High School Tia secured the second position and Govt Higher Secondary School Khaltse secured the third position.

The BLOs were felicitated for their exemplary work during the house-to-house survey EPIC coverage registration of new voters during a special summary of Electoral 2024.  Also, the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) was distributed among the newly registered voters.

Ice Hockey match was also played between the team Sheythik Hockey Club and LSRC  at the Ice Hockey rink, NDS Sports Stadium Leh.
