MP meets Union Health Minister; seeks preparedness to prevent COVID19 in Ladakh

Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Member of Parliament, Ladakh constituency calls on Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Health and Family Welfare on March 4 regarding the need for preventive and safety measures in Ladakh against the spread of the Coronavirus.

As the coronavirus continues to spread around the world, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal expressed his concern as Ladakh is vulnerable to such virus being a popular tourists destination and potential income place for thousands of labours.

In his letter submitted to the Minister, MP Ladakh says that ahead of the economic season, the region is expecting a heavy influx of people from different countries. He stressed on the need for immediate preparedness for prevention and management to deal with the COVID19.  

Ladakh MP requested the minister to establish a COVID19 laboratory in Ladakh with isolation wards and other required facilities. He also asked for the prevention of travellers from COVID19 affected areas, proper and compulsory screening of all the travellers at Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport in Leh, Thoise Airport in Nubra, Kargil Airport, entry points at Zojila and Sarchu with the opening of Srinagar – Leh and Manali-Leh highway and also appointment of additional manpower to carry out all these important tasks on war footing measure.

Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Ladakh MP also held a telephonic conversation with Rajiv Gauba, Cabinet Secretary, Govt. of India and Rigzin Samphel, Commissioner/Secretary (Health ), Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh and discussed the matter in details to ensure for preventive and safety measures in Ladakh against the spread of the Coronavirus.
