A delegation of Transport Cooperative Societies of Ladakh led by MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal met Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at the LG Secretariat on November 25.

MP Ladakh informed the L-G that the Indian Army is not allowed to hire civil-owned commercial taxis, buses, and trucks beyond the fixed years as mentioned in the policy of the Government of India. He suggested a relaxation to the civil-owned commercial taxis, buses, and trucks of Ladakh by the concerned authorities for their hiring by the Army in the region. He requested the L-G to take up the matter of considering the fitness certificate of the vehicles and not consider their age while hiring these vehicles for various purposes by the Army.

He informed the L-G about the terms and conditions of the Army for civil-hired transport contracts of the Indian Army on the Government e-Market (GeM) platform. He also informed about the challenges faced by the local transport associations in applying for contracts on GeM and requested the L-G to intervene ensuring that these local transport societies are hired based on contracts.

L-G spoke to GOC 14 Corps, Lt Gen Rashim Bali, and asked him to instruct the concerned Army official to get in touch with the MP Ladakh and provide all possible assistance to the transport societies regarding their hiring for various purposes by the Army which are within the rule of law.
