Minister Sham Lal Chaudhary takes stock of water supply in Leh district

\r\nA meeting was convened to discuss the ongoing projects under PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control and various issues faced by the Sham Lal Chaudhary, Minister for PHE, and Irrigation & Flood Control on September 27 in Leh.\r\n

\r\nThe meeting was attended by Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC, Executive councillors, SE PWD, Ex-en PHE and senior engineers of the department.\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nDr. Sonam Dawa highlighted major issues pertaining to National Rural Drinking Water, held up salary of daily wagers of PHE department, filling of vacant posts, water supply provisions in winter months, work suffer in starting working months due to non procurement of required supply material, to continue the scheme of hand pumps in Leh district and to consider restoration and compensation fund for damages caused due to rise in the water level of Indus River. \r\n

\r\nResponding to the problems raised, Minister informed that the money under NRDW has been reduced with great margin in the entire state but will be covered in BADP.He said that sooner the project report will come from Leh funds will be released. \r\n

\r\n
\r\nOn procurement of winter stocking, he instructed Ex-en PHE to send the demand list and assured its supply before closure of national highway. \r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nThe minister announced two hand pumps for each councilor and 600 hand pumps in total to Leh district. He also stressed to carry water quality test to ensure safe drinking water and urged the council to monitor it.\r\n

\r\nHe asked CEC and instructed Ex-en PHE to submit detail report of the problems and demand to his office and gave assurance to meet all the demands.\r\n

\r\nThe Minister also inspected various ongoing projects under PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control and Igoo-Phey Irrigation Canal in Leh and surrounding villages on September 28. He took detail progress report of various projects from the concerned engineers. \r\n

\r\n
\r\nWhile inspecting the ongoing earth excavation and lying of Sewerage and Drinking water pipe lines at Chubi Leh under UIDSSMT scheme, he instructed Exn. PHE Leh  N.N. Raina to complete the work till next working season. \r\n

\r\n
\r\nVarious water supply projects, for Bomb Guard at Saboo road under AMRUT, Solar Colony, Shey and Chushot under NRDWP, ongoing construction work of flood protection and training of Saboo Nallah executed by I&FC division Leh were also inspected. \r\n

\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nGiving the status of the flood protection and training of Saboo Nallah work, Engineers of I&FC apprised the minister that ₹ 47 crore is sanctioned and till date 60% work is complete.\r\n

\r\nOn his visit to the Ibex colony, resident’s complaint about the non supply of water in tap and the non-functional hand pump.\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nThe Minister gave on spot direction to rectify the hand pump in days and to submit a list of number of hand pumps functional, non-functional, dry, one that can be rectify and that cannot. \r\n
