Minister Chhering Dorje stresses on strengthening of cooperative movement in twin districts

A review meeting stressing on the strengthening of Cooperative movement by providing appropriate funding to the Cooperative societies in Leh and Kargil was held on March 6 in Jammu.

Chairing the meeting Chering Dorje, Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs, said that the steps were taken in a recent meeting with officials of National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) in Delhi to review the status of Integrated Cooperative Development Projects are going to play a decisive role in giving new direction to Ladakh’s Cooperative Movement.

He informed about the discussions on several issues related to funding of societies with 25% subsidy. For promotion and preservation of Apricot and Seabuckthorn, the collection of pulp, making juice and tetra packing unit will be established in Leh. 

Funding will be allocated by NCDC to the Cooperative Societies of both the districts to flourish their business units and generate employment to the youth of the region. The NCDC will provide finance to the Cooperative societies for the cultivation of alfalfa grass for feeding the cattle species of a specific region as it is rich in nutritious and will help in the increase of milk production. To cater the vegetable shortage in the region and to make self-reliable, NCDC will also provide financial help to the Societies in setting up greenhouses on a large scale.

He further added that with the financial help of NCDC various units of fisheries, poultry and dairy farms will be set up not only to minimize the shortages but to export the production in other parts of the country.
