Out of 80 business establishments, 6 were penalized for violating the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and Essential Commodities Act on November 3 in Kargil. A total fine of ₹ 3800 was imposed against the defaulters. 

A team of District Administration conducted an intensive market inspection in Kargil town and adjoining areas to check the quality and prices of essential commodities. The team was led by Naib Tehsildar, Kargil, Muhammad Hassan, and comprised of the members of the Enforcement Wing of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Kargil, Police Department and Municipal Committee (MC), Kargil.
 
The team inspected various business establishments including vegetable, mutton, chicken, and other shops. They took stock of the hygienic conditions of food items available in the market, charging rates, and other set standards.
 
The shopkeepers and traders were asked to display the rate list prominently at their establishments besides maintaining cleanliness.
 
District Magistrate Kargil, Baseer ul Haq Choudhary appealed to all traders to ensure proper adherence to the set standards and warned of stern action against the violators under rules.
 
Specific directions have been issued to the concerned officers to carry out frequent inspections and to conduct checking of the market so as to curb overcharging, black marketing, use of polythene, and sale of substandard food items.
