Market checking committee, Kargil, conducts surprise visit, seizes stale food items

KARGIL :
Stale fruit and fish were seized during the surprise inspection in a number of cold storages and shops on April 4 in Kargil.
 
Under the direction of Haji Gulzar Hussain, DC, Kargil, a team comprised of CMO, Animal Husbandry Officer, Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Assistant Director FCS&CA and SHO of Kargil inspected the market. The inspection team was headed by Tehsildar, Kargil.
 
The stale food item was seized and fine worth ₹ 1000 was imposed upon the shopkeepers on spot for violating the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 and Essential Commodities Act.

The team also took stock of the hygienic conditions of food items available in the market, charging of rates and other set standards. The shopkeepers and traders were asked to display the rate list prominently at their establishments besides maintaining cleanliness.
 
Haji Gular Hussain appealed all the traders to avoid black marketing or hoarding and warned of stern action against the violators under rules.

A specific direction was also issued to the concerned officers to carry out frequent inspection and checking of the market so as to curb overcharging, black marketing, use of polythene and sale of substandard food items.
