Luxury coaches rolled out in Ladakh to improve public transport LG Saxena says initiative will benefit locals and tourists alike
In a significant move to strengthen public transport and improve travel comfort in the Union Territory of Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on April 29 flagged off a fleet of luxury coaches from Lok Niwas. He also unveiled the traditional uniform for drivers of the Sindhu Infrastructure Development Corporation (SIDCO).
As part of the initiative, SIDCO has procured 10 luxury 17-seater coaches and five luxury 13-seater coaches to modernise Ladakh’s public transport system.
The state-of-the-art vehicles are equipped with advanced safety features, including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), enhanced braking systems, and reinforced body structures, ensuring improved passenger safety and reliability.
“The introduction of these modern luxury coaches reflects our commitment to improving public transport in Ladakh while ensuring safety, comfort, and reliability for passengers,” Saxena said.
Highlighting the region’s unique geographical challenges, he stressed the need for high-quality transport facilities catering to both residents and tourists. “This initiative will not only enhance connectivity but also contribute to the growth of tourism and overall development of Ladakh,” he added.
The buses are expected to provide a smoother and more comfortable travel experience, particularly for long-distance journeys across Ladakh’s rugged and high-altitude terrain.
The addition of this fleet marks a key step towards upgrading transport infrastructure in the region, making travel more efficient, safe, and accessible.
