Leh reviews arrangements for His Holiness Dalai Lama’s June 28 visit Security, healthcare, sanitation and access control measures discussed with stakeholders
A high-level preparatory meeting regarding the upcoming visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to Ladakh on June 28 was held on June 19 under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Leh, Delex Namgyal (JKAS), to review arrangements and ensure effective coordination among all concerned departments.
The meeting was attended by the President, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA); President, Ladakh Gonpa Association (LGA); Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Leh; Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Leh; Chief Representative Officer, Tibetan Refugee (TR), Leh; and officers from Traffic Police, Security, Public Works (R&B), Public Health Engineering (PHE), Rural Development, Municipal Committee (MC), Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), along with other concerned departments.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on various preparatory measures required for the visit of His Holiness. Special focus was given to route arrangements, security deployment, crowd management, traffic regulation, and logistical coordination to ensure a smooth, dignified, and well-organized programme.
President, Ladakh Buddhist Association, Tsering Dorjay Lakrook, highlighted key requirements and requested timely arrangements for the successful conduct of the visit. He also informed the meeting about upcoming coordination meetings to further streamline preparations and execution.
The LBA was requested to submit a detailed list of requirements to enable concerned departments to make coordinated arrangements. Medical preparedness was also reviewed, with the Health Department directed to share duty rosters and ensure adequate medical personnel and emergency response facilities.
The meeting emphasized maintaining cleanliness and proper upkeep of all venues associated with the visit, including the teaching venue at Jivetsal and the residence of His Holiness. Concerned departments were directed to ensure proper sanitation, water supply, and other civic amenities.
It was decided that another review meeting would be convened to assess security enhancement measures, recheck CCTV surveillance systems at the residence and Jivetsal, and finalize arrangements related to vehicle passes and access control.
Preliminary discussions were also held regarding the celebrations of the 91st birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on July 6. Stakeholders emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to ensure that the occasion is observed in a befitting and memorable manner.
All departments were directed to maintain close coordination and ensure timely execution of assigned responsibilities for the successful conduct of these significant events.
