Leh, Kargil observe complete shutdown Strive united to restore reservation in promotion

Leh and Kargil district observed complete shut down on 22nd December to protect the reservation rights and grant of Special duty allowance to the employees of Ladakh region. A press conference was held in both the district. 

The call of “Ladakh Bandh “and the struggle for the issue was held by the Ladakh Region Joint Action Committee, constituted by the all the religious, political, social and employees organization of Leh and Kargil. 

Speaking in the press conference held in Leh, P T Kunzang, said, we have observed a very peaceful and successful protest against the denial of reserved categories in promotion by the hon’ble high court of J&K in its recent double bench verdict. A memorandum has been submitted to the Deputy Commissioners of both the district of the region. 

He stated that the reservation status has given under the J&K Reservation Act of 2004, looking at the backwardness of the region, be it economically, socially or geographically. He added that few have laid down their lives during the 1981 agitation for Schedule tribe status in Ladakh. He stated that today the Govt. decides on denial of reservation in promotion but in the near future, it can take a turn by lifting up the reservation status in the region.

All the religious heads, members of Ladakh Region Joint Action Committee, Leh chapter, Tsewang Thinles, Sheikh Saif Ud- din; Ashraf Ali and E S Gergan also spoke on the occasion
Sheikh Abdullah Jalili said, “We want to show the government that this decision is not justified and we strongly oppose it.”

Vice Chairman Imam Khomeini Trust, Molana Abassa Kararri also a member of Ladakh Region Joint Action Committee, Kargil Chapter told media, “The local leaders including MLAs from both the district must raise the issue in the forthcoming Assembly session.”

 The Ladakh Joint Action Committee will check the response of the government towards the action; they will struggle until the Government won’t revoke the order. The committee will fight for every issue of the whole region in the near future.
