Leh filmmakers raise voice against piracy, to take legal action

Raising voice against the piracy and use of unauthorized internet content by illegal operators, Leh filmmakers called a press conference on February 17 at the office of Press Club Leh.

The filmmakers pressed hard on the importance of curbing piracy which is affecting the film industry bearing heavy loss.

Dechan Chamga, President, Ladakh Media and Cultural Society said, “It has been twenty-seven years that Ladakh Film Industry has been entertaining and educating people through films, video songs and documentaries. Earlier, we never faced interference in our work but it’s been two years, the piracy issue has significantly increased and filmmakers bear a huge loss and they are not able to get their investment. 

“Until now we were lenient towards people who were involved in such illegal acts.  But from now onwards we will not hesitate in taking legal action against the culprits”, he added.

Ladakh Buddhist Association and All Ladakh Gonpa Association also supported and condemned the miscreants. 

PT Kunzang, Vice President, Ladakh Buddhist Association said that the Film Association of Ladakh is putting the effort in preserving art, culture and language through films, folk songs, documentary, mythological films and historical films.  

He added, “Recently a movie was released titled “Pardo” and some of the locals have uploaded the movie live on the social network, which is a serious violation and impacts the film industry”.

He urged people to respect others the efforts of the filmmakers and not to do such illegal acts.

Similarly, Ven. Jamyang, President, Ladakh Gonpa Association said that due to the availability of high tech gadgets people are misusing their rights. Piracy has a negative impact on everyone. 

Ladakh Media and Cultural Society Leh and Maryul Ladakh Film Society also raised awareness against piracy among the public.
