Leh celebrates birth anniversary of His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa and His Eminence Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche

Leh joyously celebrated the birth anniversary of His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa and His Eminence Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche at Shey Naro Photang on February 19.

The celebration commenced with a ceremonial portrait procession of His Holiness to the main shrine, followed by Mandala and Larna offerings. Druk Padma Karpo School students sang birthday song for the long life of His Holiness and His Eminence, and birthday cakes were cut.

Nuns presented chotdro, followed by the biography (dZatnam) of His Holiness and His Eminence by Ven. Jigmet Lundup of Hemis Monastery.

Expressing gratitude, His Eminence Thuksey Rinpoche thanked the people of Ladakh and the Druk Padma Karpo School for the vibrant event. Delighted to be born in Ladakh, he expressed thanks for the love and care extended to him by the community. Emphasizing his unwavering commitment to serving the people of Ladakh, he underscored the importance of providing education to children. Additionally, he urged the people of Ladakh to unite for collective progress and upliftment in every sphere, beyond his spiritual teachings.

Executive Councillor Ghulam Mehdi lauded the education system of Druk Padma Karpo School, focusing on education that aligns with environmental values.

Brig. S Pradeep Kumar highlighted the enduring relationship with Hemis Monastery and praised His Eminence's contributions to society, including efforts in gender equality, education empowerment, and NGOs supporting various causes.

The event featured cultural performances by Shey villagers, the Young Drukpa Association, Rup Show, Korzok, SAVE and the White Lotus Band.

Distinguished guests included Khamtak Rinpoche, Tsamthul Rinpoche, Brig S Pradeep Kumar, Rigzin Dorjai (President Youth Wing LBA), executive councillors, SSP, and other dignitaries.

The celebration concluded with the Singey Tsewa Chod ceremony and blessings to the public by His Eminence Thuksey Rinpoche.
