Leh administration launches ‘Leh gLagsmo’ cleanliness campaign Six-month initiative to improve sanitation and beautify Leh town
Deputy Commissioner Leh, Romil Singh Donk (IAS), on March 7 launched a district-wide cleanliness initiative titled “གླེ་ལགས་མོ།” (Leh gLagsmo) aimed at promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful Leh town.
The initiative, which will run for six months, seeks to improve sanitation standards, promote responsible waste disposal, and encourage active community participation in maintaining public hygiene.
As part of the programme, a special cleanliness drive will commence from March 9 and continue for one week across Leh town. During this period, focused cleaning activities will be carried out in streets, marketplaces, public places, and identified waste hotspots.
The drive will be conducted with the active participation of municipal teams, volunteers, educational institutions, and various local associations, including the Leh Merchant Association, All Ladakh Gonpa Association (ALGHA), and All Ladakh Tour Operators Association (ALTOA).
The initiative emphasises community participation, waste segregation, and collective responsibility towards maintaining a clean urban environment. Citizens, business establishments, and other stakeholders have been encouraged to actively contribute and support the campaign to make Leh a cleaner and more sustainable district.
The District Administration Leh has appealed to all residents and stakeholders to extend their cooperation and participate wholeheartedly in the cleanliness drive for the collective benefit of the community.
