Late Dr. Sonam Dawa remembered on his 6th death anniversary

Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh observed the 6th death anniversary of the Late Dr. Sonam Dawa, Former CEC, LAHDC Leh at Dr. Sonam Dawa Memorial Park, Diskit Tsal on January 29.

The ceremony commenced with the lighting of a butter lamp and offering kathaks to the late Dr. Sonam Dawa, attended by Chief Guest Advisor to Lt. Governor, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, and Guest of Honor, His Eminence Chokyong Palga Rinpoche, along with other dignitaries.

Paying tribute on the solemn occasion of the 6th death anniversary of Dr. Sonam Dawa, Dr. Pawan Kotwal expressed that Sonam Dawa served as an inspiration to all. During his tenure in the health department, he devoted himself to providing essential healthcare services to the people. As Chief Executive Councillor, he played a pivotal role in the development of Leh, contributing significantly to its upliftment. 

On this occasion of remembrance, Kotwal emphasized the need to formulate a comprehensive plan to transform Ladakh into a carbon-neutral, sustainable, and well-developed Union Territory.
Deputy Chairman, Tsering Angchuk, reflected on Dr. Sonam Dawa's contributions to Ladakh, highlighting his inclusive approach in uniting everyone for the region's development. Notably, when the BJP established its presence in Ladakh, Sonam Dawa assumed leadership within the party. Since 2015, the BJP has been in power in Ladakh, and Sonam Dawa's leadership has left a lasting impact. 
Angchuk emphasised the importance of continuing to remember him and striving to emulate his work ethic. The younger generation must be aware of Dr. Sonam Dawa's substantial contributions to Ladakh and follow in his footsteps.

His Eminence Palga Rinpoche emphasised the importance of holding the name of Late Dr. Sonam Dawa with respect, expressing his sorrow upon learning of his demise years ago. He noted that Dr. Sonam Dawa was found lying on his right side, a position recognized as Buddha's resting posture, highlighting the significance of our actions in life reflecting upon death.
Palga Rinpoche spoke of the helpful nature of the former CEC, describing him as empathetic and generous, leaving a lasting impact for generations. He shared a childhood memory where Dr. Dawa saved his life during an illness.

Lobsang Sherab, Councillor, Khaltse conveyed his gratitude for the position he holds today as a councillor, having worked closely with Dr. Sonam Dawa. According to him, Dr. Dawa sincerely and impartially worked for every corner of Ladakh, irrespective of caste, creed, class, or political affiliation.

He mentioned that the park, initially not secured, was saved for public use by Dr. Dawa and proposed renaming it as "Dawa Tsal" in his honor.  Lobzang Sherab reiterated the importance of commemorating Dr. Dawa's contributions by naming the park after him.
